The Interpreter of Maladies is a story of the Das family and Mr. Now, in this essay, I chose to write on the symbols that are used in the “Interpreter of Maladies,” written by Jhumpa Lahiri, an Indian American author, who won the 2000 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. Symbols always help the readers understand the inner meaning and go beyond the glass ceiling to interpret the characters. In all the texts I’ve read in the past few weeks, symbols are present everywhere. “Symbolism gives a writer freedom to add double levels of meanings to his work: a literal one that is self-evident and the symbolic one whose meaning is far more profound than the literal one” (Symbolism). The symbols are a great means for a writer to convey their expression with a profound meaning.
